The news is so grim, I’ve begun the rethink the idea of capitalism. Something is wrong across the entire world, whole countries are going bankrupt, the system is breaking down. Not long ago I read a book called “Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism” by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, which doesn’t call for an end to capitalism, just some changes. The profit motive has worked well for many generations, but something is amiss in the way we are using it now. . . .

I have spent a lot of time rethinking the conversations we had that day. I replay sections of discussion over and over in my mind. Sometimes I am satisfied with my responses and sometimes I am ashamed. As a jury, we were given specific instruction, but should we have broken away from the stringent rules and made a different ruling? Should we have worked harder to jump over the structure placed upon us and make the situation right?
I think the profit motive will continue to work well for years . But other motives may also work and I think social business is a new and unique model combining the best of the business and non-profit worlds. It is definitely worth trying. Let all the models compete.
I spend a lot of time rethinking. I am a worrier by nature and tend to second guess myself. Sometimes that’s not good. Sometimes it’s a very good thing.
The good news is that since I’ve reached my sixties, I am less and less that way and go with my gut a lot. It seems to be working out all right. I figure if I don’t understand how my alleged brain works by now and make a good judgement, I deserve whatever happens.

All those he had betrayed surrounded him in a great circle.
Bliss would come when he found someone who loved him.
