How long since you bought a new computer? I just bought one, after using the old one since 2007. Like childbirth, you tend to forget the agony involved in setting up a new computer. Getting all the software to work, or upgraded, getting all the files where you can find them, remembering passwords for all your online sites, getting your bookmarks going – it’s several days of fussing to get things the way you want them. Is it worth it? Well, you have a shiny new and very fast “baby” at the end.

The last few years have been the most rugged of my life. Somehow, though, my family and I made it through the hard times and we just got a new laptop. I’ve used Macs most of my life and this is a gateway pc. My days and nights have been consumed with the constant request to try more, more and more. Feed me the computer keeps calling to me.
“Download a move, try this app, listen to this old tune, talk to an old pal from high school on facebook, set up a YouTube account!”
Day and night I am consumed. But then it just died one day and I had to learn it all over again.
Crash….
New Computer……
It arrived in it’s new box. Opening the box increased my excitement about having a new computer. It had more bells and whistles than the last, was pristine and calling my name. The arduous tasks and endless hours of loading software and getting settings correct had just started when it took an evil turn. The screen pixelated and started jumping from left to right. A forced shut-down was necessary. Starting again, with excitement quelled I resumed the setup tasks only to have the machine do a repeat performance for me. After several more episodes of this behavior, the ‘new computer’ took a trip to the repair shop…..
