Good sportsmanship

The decision has been called and the players should be getting on with the game. Good sportsmanship and the rules of play require this. But some of the players are still standing on the field hanging on to their past plays and arguing that the actions that the ref declared wrong are the right ones to use right now. It mystifies.

  1. Assistant Coach Cody locked the chain-link fence behind him. He crossed the evening-hot grass to home plate, humming Hank Williams. The little league grandstands, empty, pearlescent, glared him down as he propped the diamond up with a boot. Another dusty envelope—the visiting team’s victory bribe. Cody grinned. Thought, Barhopping.
