Cookies

The kitchen warmed by the oven,
the house fragrant with the aroma of cookies,
the toddlers on stools with fingers in batter,
and Mom, sipping at the brandy,
soon to set off the smoke alarm,
by forgetting to remove cookies
from the oven. It’s a holiday.

  1. While waiting for my chai latte at a Starbucks on a dark winter evening, I ventured into the unknown and ordered a ginger molasses cookie. I felt the urge to try something new. Sitting down with my feet up with a warm cookie and chai latte, relaxation finally hit.

    The kitchen was filled with the varying smells: some chocolate, others berry, and fruit. The children rushed into the kitchen as the timer went off, for they knew that their favorite part of the holiday season was about to arrive; this, to them, was better than opening presents.
