Artists

The first lady of the United States presented the Oscar for best picture last night at the Oscars. She talked about how important the art and artists in Hollywood are to the country and the world. You know what? What she said is true for all artists: writers, visual artists, musicians and every other creative individual. Tell your stories. Write.

At the heart, the artist is in peace with oneself, However, it is the ever erupting externalities that ignite the flames of self doubt. Brave the waters, overcome all the waves and tides.

Unfortunately, the good First Lady got it all wrong again. Folks in Hollywood?
Let me see: Greeks. Romans. Egyptians. Renaissance. Statue of David? Yes! Statue of Spielberg? No. How ’bout the Gettysburg address. How ’bout “Give us your poor…” I rest my case.

Vulnerability wraps the heart of every artist who displays his or her work. We have put our guts and souls on display. Our ego wonders. Will it connect with others? Can they relate to my experiences taken to form? Will it soften a hardened heart? Will it inspire thoughts beyond the mundane? We dare to hope.
