Grand Theater, Rocky Ford Colorado

Decades ago I spent many an afternoon at the Grand Theater in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Amazingly, it’s still going, showing movies (Glee in 3D!) and serving frozen Cokes. The place has been restored to like new condition. At a recent reunion I went in early to photograph the place, with its fresh paint, new upholstery, and new curtain. The nostalgia hangs heavy here. Remembering Tarzan movies from elementary school days, 50s musicals I attended with my mom, stolen kisses in the balcony as a teen, even the first time I ever tasted a Mounds Bar.

  1. The Capital Theater in Moncton was once a grande dame of theaters, filled with movies, men with top hots and ladies with fans. Then the day came that the theater was threatened, but the community rose up and shouted, “NO!”
A few years ago my son played at that theater, played piano for an awesome musical called “Leader of the Pack”, and the crowd roared its appreciation! Long live theaters!
