Go See It

Down at the multiplex today, every movie ever made is showing, for one day only. The one I urge you to go see is “The Secret of Roan Inish.” Irish mythology, no violence, a beautiful story. Yep. Go see it.

  1. “Mommy! Mommy! You gotta go see it! There is a strange dog barking down on the beach.”

The little girl grabbed her mother’s hand and pulled her towards the beach. They had rented a beach cottage for three weeks–the two had done this each summer for the last two years–ever since the father was killed in Iraq.

As her mother approached she started laughing. “That’s no dog. That’s a seal.”

As they moved closer, something moved in the sand near the seal.

    “Look! She has a baby!”

“How cute. It’s like you and me mommy.” She gripped her mother’s hand tighter.
