  1. Decorations littered the modest family room. Some were pink, some were blue; the baby’s gender was to be a surprise. The only surprise was a sonogram that showed no heartbeat, no blood flow, and a feckless emergency c-section. The would be grandmother wept as she picked up a pink streamer.
