  1. The black beans were simmering in the pot, and Aimee had already added the salt and a dash of pepper. Now came the cumin. She picked up the glass container and flipped the lid. As she sprinkled the pungent spice into the pot, the plastic lid fell into the beans as well as a major portion of the cumin. She frantically looked for the ladle, but it was nowhere in sight. She tried to spoon most of the spice from the surface, but knew that the brunt of it had been dispersed within the pot. Dinner was ruined.
