Most bicyclists yell out “On your left,” when they are about to whiz past you. But this guy had a little bell on his bicycle. It went jingle, jingle. I couldn’t grasp what I was hearing. Was it my phone? That’s why I didn’t move out of the way and why . . .

  1. When she was small, she peddled around on a pink Huffy tricycle that had pink and white streamers attached to the rubber grips at the end of the handlebars. Her brother had a larger bike with a bicycle bell he rang constantly. She was glad hers didn’t have one. That way, she could explore forbidden places on the property, coming and going unnoticed.
