I watched the mother run behind her toddler, pretend chasing him. “Quick, quick, quick!” she said. They stopped to climb some tractor tires painted yellow. “Climb, climb, climb,” she said. Then the mother took giant steps across the grass, her toddler imitating. “Slow, slow, slow” she said.
