First 50 many years ago in Italy

I admire and am attracted to intelligence. An intelligent, well-written sentence or poem impresses me. All my life I’ve strived to write to write impressive sentences. Once in a while I succeed.

Recently I was reading an old journal I wrote while on a trip to Italy. There were a few good sentences in it. You have to admit it’s pretty funny when a writer impresses herself with her own sentences!

  1. Yeah , I admire the way
    some words you say
    Some ideas bother
    crawl and fester
    others are flighty
    butterfly beauty

    I admire how words
    sharpen into swords
    capable of wounding
    slicing, compounding

    Some quickly reach ,
    the heart of the matter
    some take ages ,much
    like the proverbial hare

    Must admire
    that even in slumber
    words dont tire
    never retire

    Soldier ants
    astride plants
    reach the sap
    almost asap

    a miracle !!

  2. I admire Virginia, and her surprising , thoughtful prompts. Thank you, my friend, for being here all these years to push me along the writing path. I hope you continue to inspire me for a long, long time. 50 words, enough to say what I want to say: Thank you!

  3. Can one admire someone they don’t respect? Is admiration a synonym of respect or does it capture something different. Perhaps I can admire how well someone does something without liking or respecting them very much, but is the reverse true. Is it possible to respect someone you don’t admire. I’ll have to think about that.
