In the dream of America there was talk of equality and freedom of religion. There was a sense that anyone could come here and be welcomed. Of course, it was never quite like the dream, even in the beginning. Yet, it was close enough to the dream that we could say America was like that, stood for that. . . .

  2. Caught in a flash flood . Terrible , raging torrents . Banana trees , bent against the stream , breaking , giving in . People watching from the safety of the banks . Me walking upstream , trying to rather . Holding tufts of grass by the bank . Swirling muddy flow, trying to suck me in . The strangest part is , I am alone . Why ? How ? and worse , where ?

    I could never find the answers , for I was in a dream . A vivid and terrifying dream .
