The Holidays

Virginia in a top hat

My plan for Christmas Day is to go see the newest version of “Little Women” at the local multiplex. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate a holiday, in my opinion. Whether you love the holiday season or dread it I hope you find a way to enjoy it and wish you the very best in the coming new year. Let’s write!

  1. What you doing for the holidays?

Sitting in that dark cupboard, G&Ts on tap

What? Do you not like Christmas?

    Chocolate… with everything?
    Happy, happy pressure!
    Relentless eating…
    Imagination for gifts all gone
    Secret santas, make-do smiles
    Tree mess
    More and more…
    Alcohol… again…
    So glad its over

    (with apologies, merry xmas all)

  2. This holiday , I was in the hospital . Someone dear fell sick , very sick . Then he recovered , just like that . It was three days of mayhem and magic . His poor wife swung between extreme dark despair and blinding white hope . But life is like that, I guess . One moment you are planning a holiday in South Africa , and next moment you are wringing your hands with worry , sitting outside in a chilling hospital corridor.

Strangely , we were thankful it happened during the Holidays . So did some strange , inexplicable rash of protests over a controversial bill passed by the parliament . Some friends could reach and contact , others could contact but not reach . Still others could do neither , as internet services were shut down , and crowds thronged the streets . Vehicular and internet traffic were both affected .

The Hospital ploughed on . Surgeries were conducted , rounds taken , patients patiently looked after . All in the warm surroundings . Outside raged the blistering cold .
