Midnight Sun

It was one of those dreams you really enjoy. I was scampering (yes, scampering) down the street with Teri Polo. We splashed in puddles and sang songs. She made up one. I sang June Christy’s version of “Midnight Sun.” Damn, I was so good – I sounded just like June Christy. Did I really have to wake up?

  1. Marie and Bill decided to take a vacation to Norway that year. They’d read about the Land of the Midnight Sun and had always been fascinated by all Norway had to offer. The only downside to this was that their relationship had not been going well. As a matter of fact there were moments when she seriously considered leaving him. There also were times when she was on the verge of killing him. There was a possibility that a trip together to a place they’d always wanted to visit might help get their marriage back in sync. When they arrived in June there was nearly perpetual daylight. The traditional concept of time lost all meaning. Soft rays from the low-lying sun made the scenery appear hauntingly dreamlike. Colors were surrealistic. Everyone knows that exposure to light during late evening screws up your circadian rhythm. And so their story of how they successfully resurrected their marriage in Norway began.

  2. there will be many, many victims of Global Warming, Change. Will the Midnight Sun be one of the them? Will the children of those who presently live in the cold latitudes be bereft of Midnight Sun along with the wonder and get togethers that accompanied its glory? Midnight Sun is only a dream for many of us, but at least we know with the right circumstances of Place & Time, it’d be possible, How long with that certitude remain unbroken?
